On February 19, 2014  The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation introduced 50 new small buses in Chennai on Wednesday to cover an additional 20 routes. Some of these buses will start operating on Wednesday night while others would start service on Thursday morning.

The new routes would cover areas like Tambaram, Pallavaram, Thiruvanmiyur, Besant Nagar, Adyar, Guindy and Mandaveli in the south and Villivakkam, Korattur, Perambur, Valasaravakkam in the north and north-western parts of the city.

The idea of small buses is to connect unconnected areas to the bigger modes of transport. "MRTS stations, bus depots and railway stations are some of the places small buses will cater to," said the official.

This is the detailed route list for the mini buses flagged off on February 19.





Small Buses in Chennai

As per the earlier announcement from State transport minister, Senthil Balaji on May 8, 2012 about introduction of 100 mini buses in Chennai. On 23/10/2013, tamilnadu Chief Minister has launched 50 mini bus services in Chennai on the following 20 routes.

The buses are painted with light green colour and green leafs are printed are either side of the bus. All the buses are started with “S” series with 27 seating capacity with emergency exit at the back side of the bus.

The mini bus routes are having six stages from its starting point to end point. The minimum fare of Rs 5 to maximum fare of Rs 9 will be collected ad ticket charges from the passengers.

They added that the mini buses will not be operated as night service. As per the distance measurement and number of buses operated, every 15 – 30 minutes a mini bus will be operated in the above mentioned routes.

New Trains announced in Railway Budget 2014-15

In the interim Railway Budget On 12 Feb 2014, Railway Minister, Mallikarjun Kharge has announced 72 new trains which includes 17 Premium trains, 38 Express trains, 10 Passenger trains, 4 MEMU and 3 DEMU in this year’s Interim Railway Budget. Three trains will be extended and frequency of same number of trains will be increased.
